What you doing Sunday!;)

STOP: 0x00000071 error
SESSION5_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887359/

Now, just because that appertains to Win2000 don't mean you should ignore the suggested fix ... I would be trying anything at this stage in the 'game' your playing.

I take it as read, 'cos I still lack information, that the DVD/CD drives are IDE drives ... which seemed to be a problem with any IDE HD.

Correct

All you keep telling us is what errors you are getting ... but I need to know more on what hardware you are trying & what software, if any, including drivers, you have installed.

The drivers are all off the Gigabyte MB disk provided

That Gigabyte MB is an all-singing-dancing-upto-date lovely looking MB, but ... I see a recent BIOS update for new super IO version ... whatever that is?

Have you at anytime reset the BIOS? if so, did you go and check its settings?

No and no

What is the actual hardware you are using, names please ... if you say Sony DVD then I'll hit you, I want model numbers too. Ram specs inc timings.

In other words, I want a complete list of hardware AND software, including driver numbers, you are using. Any combination can cause a problem ... go get ALL the latest drivers for the system before you install anything.

My head hurts....

Are you getting as far as to be able to use Windows Update Site?

Fully updated

I have just downloaded the manual for the board, I'll take a looksee if anything is unusual.

Southport is nice this time of year for a visit.

The way this is going Mucks, I'm very tempted!

I will get as much info to you,as you need over the weekend, when I have a bit more time to go over stuff. I'm just very busy at the mo, and could well do without this agro!

Cheers.

No problem ... all these 'errors' are stemming from the MB, where did you buy it ?

Take your time ... I have loads to spare. :thumb:

Overclockers.

Last re-boot, I was met with a NOD32 threat!

C:\a.bat
reg/Zapchast trogan.

re-dvd burner\players messing about..........I had a look at the jumper settings on the burner, moved it to master and re-booted, and it worked. Did some more work on trying to find my audio device, re booted and back to my I\O error

So, i have decided to re-format and do a fresh install of windows, etc.

Ok, re-format went well...I think.

DVD errors have now been sorted .....I think, jumper settings were dodgy!

Next problem is "No Audio Device"
I've installed all the sound drivers off the mobo disk. I went to the Gigabyte website and downloaded their latest drivers and still no show?

Where the fupp is it

?

............... .....UPDATE......................

I've sorted out my sound problem. The problem was microsoft bus drivers, they should have been on the mobo cd, and installed, but they weren't:mad:, anyway.....problem solved.

But back to my DVD drives.

I thought that I had solved this problem, with correct jumper settings and correct IDE connections.....Just how wrong was I:confused:.

The very same problem that I encountered a couple of days ago, has returned.

My DVD R gets an I/O error when I try and use it.
My DVD player just spits out cd's after about 5 sec.
I have a bruise on my head from butting my monitor.

If anyone wants any advice on self builds, it this...dont do it.

Any ideas folks, or is it a case of a new DVD burner, and subsequent cost and possibility of that mis-behaving as well.

Over to you..........
