Hi folks:D

Doing a little upgrade to my pc,but problems afoot

gigabite S-series ga-965p
E6600
2 gig corsair
leadteck 8800gts
550 watt psu

I'm trying to install windows xp, but just at the windows start-up screen, I get a

STOP: 0x0000007B error.

I've a google search on my lappy, but I'm not bright enough to figure out where to go next

Just so we are all aware, this problem was caused by Pika:D

Any more info required, or any next step, would be welcome.

We are thinking power may be an issue? 500-600 watt is min.rec. spec.
So is my 550 watt, just not giving enough juice?
This is Pika's next suggested move, but I could do without spending £70

Thanks in advance!

lets try to narrow this problem down, do you have a spare hard drive, if u do put that one in and try to install to that one and see if that message comes up. also there may be some sort of hardware incompatibility. Your current Hard disk may not be supported with the system.

Guys I am new to this forum......however, for the last 3 weeks or so my computer have been showing blue screen, and shows the following:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
and
STOP:0X000000D1(0XFFFFFFFC,0X00000002,0X00000000,0 XF76ACBEA)
NDIS.sys-ADDRESS F76ACBEA base at F7697000, Datestamp 41107ec3

And after restarting, the further detail are shown as below when I have click the link on the window thea appeared with the message 'system recovered from serious error':

BCCode : 100000d1 BCP1 : FFFFFFFC BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : F76ACBEA OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

I have already done memtest for a night but no errors were found,
Can anybody help me to sort out the problem
System Specification:
AMD duocore3800 processor
ASUS motherboard M2NPV-VM
NVIDIA CHIPSET
512 RAM, 80 GB harddisk, HITACHI

Hi zyon,

I have tried this install on three different hd. The first hd would not install xp (thats another issue, but not important!), the next two hd's went thro the xp install, and in both cases, I got this error.

Update.....

After several bouts of
wallbash.gif
and case slamming I'm now getting a

STOP: 0x00000071 error

SESSION5_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

Will this fun never end?

Trying to get a bootdisks (I may need these apparenty?), and I need to put it/them on a cd, but I'm having no joy there either.
Surely these things should be easy:confused:.

Stressed,
from North Wales.

All your Errors are pointing to a 'problem' with the hard drive ... whether or not you have the correct cable (correctly orientation), proper drivers, right boot sequence, MB problem I don't know ... you ain't telling. ;)

Is the HD set to master ?
Is the HD connected to the correct end of the cable? ... blue = master HD, Gray = Slave HD & pretty colour = MB
Are you using an 80col cable?
Only have the HD on one cable & the CD/DVD on its own cable
What size is the HD ?
Can the BIOS identify it correctly, is the BIOS 48bit LBA compatible?

You do not need a boot disk, a real XP CD is a boot disk ... it is a real XP CD, innit?

questions questions questions  now gimme the answers. :D

Re:

Have you allowed the c: drive to be one of your boot devices?Cableing is also very important as mentioned.I would like to point out that in cases where the cable has only the red stripe,it usually faces the power plug on the drive and follow the pinout to attach to the motherboard. The master ussually plugs into the center of the cable and the longer end ussually goes to the motherboard with the shorter on going to the slave. Most slaves can function with no pinning at all, however the master has to be pinned properly. Most HDD's come with a pinout pattern printed or stickered on them somewhere.I would like to point out that you can boot on any drive, including a slave providing that you set to that drive in the bios.If you are running your main program on the c: drive you can use most microsoft OS from 2000 on to establish a boot menu for multiple OS.I have encountered this error before. If you have all your settings co-ordinated you probably have a faulty boot disk.Remember to remove all the removable boot media when your computer reboots.Copy your setup disk to the HDD.This is a good way to test the quality of the setup data. Also, setting up the OS from the HDD is a good way to get around a lot of problems that you may encounter when booting from a CD.These simple steps may save you some lost hair while working on your "Y" drive.

NOT on a modern 80col cable it don't!! ...

The old 40col cables could be used, upside-down inside-out and did not matter what went where ... however, the newer 80col cable are specific, the master drive should be on the black connector, which is NOT in the middle.

You are correct about the 'red' line, it must connect to pin one of the HD and that is usually, though I have seen different, next to the power socket of the HD

If using a SATA drive, it don't bloody matter. :D

RE:The master usually plugs into the center of the cable

Yes,I was just thinking about folks with older cables with just the red stripe and no other colour markings.

Thanks for the replys guys.
I'll let you know how things progress over the next couple of days.

I've done a fresh install on a new 320gig sata.....using my DVD/CD drive...No problem.
Installed all the drivers off DVD/CD drive...No problem.

Try and install anything else and no go.

When I try to open CD Drive, I get an "I/O device error".

Over to you guys!

ps

I have tried the PIO method, to no avail

Is one of the pins bent on the dvd/cd drive? Is it pinned properly?

This DVD/CD had just installed XP and my drivers CD, so it as working, not 30 mins ago, and I haven't moved it.
I uninstalled it, re booted, abd it found my GPU drivers disc, and installed, ok.

On reboot again, I get the I/O error again. And this time the uninstall/reboot method aint working!

Mucks, I'm likely to be nearer to you than Swansea!

Removed my DVD/CD re-writer and stuck in my old CD drive, and all ok.:)
So now I need a new writer:mad:.

I now need it to find some old HDD's, so I can get some info off my old 40gig, and install my 250gig somehow, but at the mo, i aint finding my ext. drive
wallbash.gif
...these things are sent to test us.

This has been one pain in the ass install.

I'll call in the rear guard, aka Pika, who has so far, just about redeemed himself, on this build;)

At least my Crunching should improve!

Still having problems guys.....

I'm 2 DVD/CD players down....., the first,my DVD Burner, after working briefly, I got I/O error's...The second, a DVD player, after working briefly, now spits out all cd's.
So, of course, I can't install any software.
Why have 2 DVD players gone down?.......I'll be buggered if I'm splashing out on a new DVD Burner, untill I find out what is the cause.

My HDD enclosure....... it wont recognise, and I must get access to my old drives, ASAP!

The computer tells me I have no audio devices!!!!!, so no sound.

To say I'm becoming Pi$$ed off, is putting it mildly!

Now, where did I leave my chainsaw.......

OK, then pop the PC up to me and I'll take a look. :thumb:

Now, just because that appertains to Win2000 don't mean you should ignore the suggested fix ... I would be trying anything at this stage in the 'game' your playing.

I take it as read, 'cos I still lack information, that the DVD/CD drives are IDE drives ... which seemed to be a problem with any IDE HD.

All you keep telling us is what errors you are getting ... but I need to know more on what hardware you are trying & what software, if any, including drivers, you have installed.

That Gigabyte MB is an all-singing-dancing-upto-date lovely looking MB, but ... I see a recent BIOS update for new super IO version ... whatever that is?

Have you at anytime reset the BIOS? if so, did you go and check its settings?

What is the actual hardware you are using, names please ... if you say Sony DVD then I'll hit you, I want model numbers too. Ram specs inc timings.

In other words, I want a complete list of hardware AND software, including driver numbers, you are using. Any combination can cause a problem ... go get ALL the latest drivers for the system before you install anything.

Are you getting as far as to be able to use Windows Update Site?

I have just downloaded the manual for the board, I'll take a looksee if anything is unusual.

Southport is nice this time of year for a visit.
