Thank you for this information, now I know why the G.Skill
company suggested insuring "it" for $100.00; I thought it might
be custom built. The individual who gave it to me is out of the
US right now. I recognize that those who post here are
knowledgeable about computers. As I wrote, I need to learn more
myself. As much as I use them for my work, and enjoyment, I
should take the time to learn about them. I'll continue reading.

Another good idea is to make a local techie friend, that can do
wonders for your personal computer problems.

Agreed, i am always helping out people where i live with things. It
called"Paying it forward!"

There is a good small business in my town with reasonable rates that I
use for repair and work on my computers. The people who work there
also answer questions, and have a straightforward approach I like.
Like a decent auto mechanic*, a good computer tech is a necessity for
most people in business. Though I got lucky & found smitfraudfix one
time, most situations are not that simple.

*One can often, but not always, avoid the need for a good attorney.

There might be advantages to using a techie friend instead of a
shop. This might not be your concern, but a shop can search, find,
and copy everything on your hard drive. An ounce of prevention is
worth a pound of cure. In any case, hopefully you do keep backups
of any important files from your hard drive to removable media.

Good luck and have fun.

Peach,

Please ignore the trolls. There are plenty of people who post in these
newsgroups who are willing to answer your actual questions without
trying to impress themselves.

something funny
a new guy?
"This ... was our land. Troll land."
"Professor Quirrel: Troll in the dungeon! Troll in the dungeon!
Thought you ought to know. "... awful!
"The Troll Commander, Zuljin, is captured at Hillsbrad."... let's
rescue him!
"Three Blind Mice is a well-known troll."... good old song
"Price of Forest Troll Shadow Priest changed from 155 to 200."... want
one?
