I'm looking for a "Pure picture viewer". There are none currently
available AFAIK. The closest is ACDSee 2.43 Classic.
(Sssssssharewwwwware)

I thought ACDSee 2.43 was freeware now ........ it is on an old PC I just
bought, with a user name = FreeVersion and licence = 203181838321319

If it is still shareware then I guess I had better wipe it.

AFAIK versions up to and including 2.43 are Magazine ware (Just buy a
magazine where the version is included on the CD, to be licenced.

I just checked on the website and it appears 2.43 is indeed shareware. I
had better remove this from the old PC I bought. Or maybe it is a legit
username and licence ?? Or maybe not ..... seems strange to have a
username of "FreeVersion", lol.

Or, you could use "DopeHead" and "023662002521327"

AFAIK ACDSee v. 2.2 is the last freeware version

http://www.oldos.org/files/win31dl.php

ACDSee features an attractive, effective and easy-to-use interface,
including toolbars, status bars and on-line help. It includes support
for most BMP, GIF, JPEG, PCX, Photo-CD, PNG, TGA and TIFF files. With
rapid JPEG decoding, and fast, full-color image previews, its file
system browser front end lets you quickly browse through your images and
other files. More features include fast scrolling and zooming, even
during a decoding process, and an innovative system for deleting,
renaming, copying and moving files. The automatic or manual slideshow
has optional read-ahead decompression, always-on-top and full-screen
viewing window options, and a shrink image to fit window or screen
option. An optional single-instance mode makes ACDSee the perfect viewer
for use as a helper application.

Download version: 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2

Thank you all for the helpfull information.

I've been an on and off linux user since Red Hat 4.3. I have also used
MDK and Debian, on and off also. I have used Knoppix, and it is
amazing when it is run from CD. I have to test it on old computers to
see how it runs.

I'm going to try all the freeware posible to see what I can find to be
good for noobs.

Thanks again

As always: Memory is the key Lots of it.

The slowest system Ive runned knoppix on was a
Pentium I @ 133 MHz
64 MB Ram
740 Harddisk

Ran for about an hour before it crashed

Ran it without problems on a

Pentium I @ 166 MHz
256 MB Ram
No harddisk :-)

There are a lot of free OS systems, but only a few are even sleightly
usefull.
To skip a lot of <BEEP> and go straigt to the os that can be used:
- Free Dos - Dos only, but quite good
- Linspire (Was Lindows) Has a free version, but I doubt it remains freeware
if it realy takes of.

Again, Linspire, Lindows, Lin--whatever its call this week is just
another distribution of linux. is not another operating system.
and is not even good.

I know, but if we take a look at the promisses made when
<What-is-the-name-today> was started, it would be concentraded on running
Windows apps natively. That's why I listed the distro seperated.

Futhermore I'm highly disappointed in the system, mostly because of their
view of software installation. Only when I get the freedom of linux and the
easyness of windows (No, don't whine, windows is easier. And I don't care if
you disagree) I will switch.
