Although they share the same abbreviation, it's NOT the Boy Scouts of
America, but the Business Software Alliance, website can be found at:

Actually, I was thinking British Small Arms. - I was always a Norton

Well, and then there were BSA motors... but they won't do the job
either :-) Although the small arms may get a license to shoot abusers
on sight <LOL>.

Happy Newyear!!!

discussion group alt.comp.freeware.discussion could be used for those
reports? What are the sentiments about that?

I don't follow a.c.f.d, and I guess not many do (but it might help).

Does this group, or the freeware-community, still need
alt.binaries.freeware?
Couldn't tell you - as 98% of people can't even get it I figure it
should be shut and restarted under a name not so ofputting to the
ISP's.
Just my opinion!!

It doesn't matter what name you give a group, you cannot use it for
binaries anyway. Most usenet distributor networks are stripping binaries
from all messages in all groups.

Forget the idea of spreading binaries through newsgroups.
Those days are over.

Put the binaries on some web space and give a link to it in the message.

And, this is not just my opinion, I have researched the issue well.

(We tried to get newsgroup admins to accept
alt.binaries.schematics.electronic, a very low volume fully legal
distribution of electronics schematics which are essential to electronics
engineers discussions.)

You mean stealth binary groups? I thought that got killed off years ago.
As an aside, I understand that ACF, prior to '99, was one of those. Makes
for the reason that responsible servers did not carry it before its change
in '99 to a legit text discussion group. And that googling on earlier dates
turns out mainly usenet.abuse reports.

For free web space, I benefited from a good recommendation from donutbandit.
Nice and clean, no ads, and it took only minutes to get an account:

For tossing up files, while there are many choices, Leechftp is one that
I find straightforward and quite suitable

Forgive my ignorance - I thought 'Binaries' meant those lewd pictures
one hears so much about. What have these got to do with Zips; Rars and
..EXE's.

Please don't all shout at once - one at a time will do!!

Most anything that is 'not' plain text.
Wav, avi, jpg, rar type files.

How long have you been online? A good search engine might help you
in the future. Just a thought.

What so you post your message all over the place? I just noticed
this today.

Forgive my stupidity, how exactly do you set up this port.5 web space.
It says please enter your chosen sub-domain, e-mail address and e-mail
forwarding. So if you want to set up a website, you can just put
"whateveryouwant" in the first space and an e-mail address in the next
space and push submit? I don't know what e-mail forwarding is. Will
they send you an e-mail telling you what to do next?

Yes.

I don't know what e-mail forwarding is.

It's not a service I wanted from them, and I haven't thought about it.
Sounds like it means that mail sent to <[email protected]> will
automatically resolve, and then forward to the email address I used
on signup with Port5.
Will they send you an e-mail telling you what to do next?

Yes.
From the mail they sent me:

| 6. FTP Information
|
| FTP Server: ftp.portland.co.uk
| User ID: omegaxxx
| Password: xxxxx
| (Forwarding email address:[email protected])

Then you put that info in your FTP client. In LeechFTP, copy those first
three fields into the File>Connect dialog. Checkmark [x] personal login.
You don't need to specify remote directory. After my first connect, I
used LeechFTP's bookmark feature, so that I wouldn't have to remember
any of the data above.
