even though you go back to the original 7x the first Radeon ATI drivers
:sparked: as it were, the VIA updates, at least brought
attention to some problems. data transfer was also affected through some
older versions of the bus master IDE drivers.
About your problem with the LAN....do you run Office suites and do you
allow indexing (find fast and the like) to run over the
server? or even some Adobe imaging indexers?

Nope,no indexing no adobe, made sure the box was not participating in browser
elections, unistalled tcp/ip stack and reinstalled.Made sure task scheduler
was not polling the network.Turned off as many services as I could and still
make it(connectivity) work.Nothing cures it except unplugging the network
cable. That fixes it instantly. As does turning off tcp/ip netbios helper. When
it slows there is no higher CPU useage
no significant change in packet traffic. This has got me more stumped than
anything ever has.It has been doing it since I got the job a year or so
ago,the only real hassle it causes at this point is TS ing in to do maint.

Well running a DHCP server is far more than just clicking a checkbox.
Sure a lot easier than setting up DNS with static IP's as I have already
done.I feel DHCP is a bit of a security
risk.I much prefer knowing all my machines IPs and where they are, with only
70 on the network I see no need for DHCP,just one more thing to break. After
this problem gets solved,I will also remove wins and lmhosts,as everything
else
worked just fine on DNS alone, except this one machine.Only added that to see
if it was a name resoultion problem, and it seems not to be the case.MS
says only DNS should be needed,Adysthemic

DNS is for larger networks. ****Ugly is showing his ignorance. And, this
guy runs a store? Good luck Ad.

Uh, how do you manage name resolution on your "smaller" TCP/IP networks
without DNS?

Having Video stabilty/capture problems? This fixes them 89% of the time.
First always download latest drivers normally CD ones are for crap. Second
take what ever someone who sells computer stuff with a grain of salt and
through it over your shoulder.
1>Unload ATI Video drivers and Control panel by using add remove in control
panel
2>Load chipset drivers. Load 4in1 drivers by VIA
3>Load Video Drivers. ATI Catalyst drivers 3.6 (3.7 is to new for me yet)
all three parts as described by ATI
4>Load DirectX drivers suggest 9.0b for NTSC users.
5>Ensure DirectX acceleration is enabled. Run>Dxdiag Under display Tab
Ensure all three acelerations are enabled in features. (if not its normaly
caused by no chipset drivers or them not being seen so reload chipset
drivers if its not enabled)

I have used the capture card at this URL for about 3 years now. This card
produces excellent quality video with NO dropped frames. No, not one. I'd
have to say it's perfect. It costs less than $300.00 US. The software is
somewhat quirky, and they haven't produced an upgrade for it in all this
time (maybe they never will), but once you get used to it, there is no
comparison. I recently bought an AIW 9000 Pro for another machine. No
comparison. The AIW video is pathetic by comparison.
The only caveat is that the TV tuner comes in NTSC only, so if you're in
Europe, your out of luck.
You can call or email these people and they will respond. They will be
honest about the card's shortcomings. I am 100% happy with this card and
recommend it highly.

Thank you all for the many suggestions, this is a very helpful group here.I
did not go back through all the posts, but the
person that suggested the Via chipset driver upgrade banged it squarely on
the nose.I simply went to Iwill got the latest 4in1
redid all the ATI stuff and I now have MMC 8.5 and cat3.7
functioning probably as well as it ever will.I found a tut at dvrhelp and
set up the parameters of the mpeg2 recording,
no dropped frames now ,and 48bit stereo.I'll report back when I get it
burned to DVD, to see if it is any better than 7.7
and the old vid driver. You'd think all this info would be right on the ATI
site.If I were the ceo of ati I'd just pay one of you guys to collect and
post relevant info on the site,;>),Tnx again.
hehe still have that server prob.....

For Me, this is one of the reasonsI wont go over to Window XP Pro
as the support for capture is not as easy to comeby as it is for
Win98 SE. I use W98se via virtualdub to do my captures. I also use
a patch to get the tv tuner to come up in virtualdub.

I capture at 720x480 screen size and redo things from there.

Group,
ATI has got to be the fussiest, flakiest video card I've ever dealt with.If
it weren't the only thing I could use at the moment
I'd surely throw it out the window.I purchased the "upgrade"
to MMC 8.5.Really big mistake.7.* worked somewhat ok before I tried to
"upgrade",for possibly
only a slight potential improvement in audio rip choices, and I hoped, less
dropped frames. After following the instructions to the letter, none of the
MMC programs work at all now.I've spent over eight hours
uninstalling/re-installing, to no avail. Now even going back to the old
drivers and MMC 7,it still fails to function.I had to rename the ATI
Multimedia folder to even get the GD thing to uninstall. Not to mention the
damn silly refresh thing that all ATI cards suffer from.I tried to reset it
like ALL other video cards but noooo, you have to remember some idiotic
different way to do it with ATI.It was simpler to remember to just get that
Russian util,sheesh.Any tips
to get this thing going would be appreciated.Running WinXP pro SP1,Athlon
1.8.Perhaps I'm missing something simple.
I'd like to "move up".At this point cost is no object.I'd like a
TV/ Capture card with well developed drivers,at least some support,(not
unanswered emals).Support to me means less than 3days for an answer.Been all
over usenet trying everything I've read,to no avail.Adysthemic

The web would be a faster place without Spam !
