Advice on what to upgrade

but he can buy a 6600gt now... and buy another one in the future when the prices goooo well down...

he may not even have to! one 6600gt will do fine and if he feels the need to upgtade again he can probably affored 2 6800gt :p or a 6600gt at a low price :D

two 6600gt's are equal a 6800gt ... not ultra... if u have the money buy one 6800gt and get another one in the future... but one 6600gt will do u fine! and if u feel a need to upgrade just get anotther one when the price lowers!

OK, you guys answered my question I think. But here is what I am thinking and let me know if I'm correct.

2 6800Ultras(these are SLI compliant I checked) will out preform a 7800gtx. Though two of the 6800 will cost more than a single 7800. Realistically I can probably only afford a single 6800, So i'm thinking I'm going to go with that for sometime, until I either get the extra money or seriously need the upgrade. And by the time I get around to the second card, it should have dropped dramatically in price.......
....also in another post by Ian i think he mentioned something about nVidia leaing software that will support SLI of two unmatched cards..... that will be an intersting factor as well if its true..

Also, how does a 7800 GTX match up against this card????
ASUS En6800Ultra/2DT/512 Geforce 6800Ultra 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121198

well on the homepage (of this site) it talks about mismatched graphics cards through SLi...

so if this is correct you can buy a 6800ultra or gt and buy a 7800 in the future... and the asus card you mentioned ... a 7800 will beat it alot ... although the website you mentioned had no specs of it... but a 7800 has more pipelines.. and really a 6800 ultra will do u or even a standard 6800 will do you well for some time and then get another gfx in time when you feel u can afford it :)

Never mind, I found out, the 7800GTX blows it away. The 512Mb does keep up very nicely in lower resolution, 600x800 but anything more than that it kinda craps out compared to the 7800. Which is sad because it costs $100.00 more than the 7800. I feel bad for anyone who has recently purchased one of those.

Thanks G man, I found it funny that we were psoting at the same time. But I agree, and as far as 6800's go, a regular 6800 runs just under $300.00, the gt about $310.00-350.00 and the Ultra $450.00 so I'll have to decide on whether the $100.00 is worth the bragging right.

lol :D well dont get a standard 6800 .. get a gt, should do you fine :)

and post sum benchmarks when you get it running ;)

and also! if u feel u want an ultra.. i would suggest spending the money on a amd 64 3500 instead... but still get the gt :)

I was thinking that too. I basically want to do a major upgrade my self, so yea the 3500 is a good idea, I just saw one at decent price. Thanks.

where was that raje? and what price? they've always seemed to much for me :o ...

but as i am doing a new build soon... i will try and save a little bit more for a better CPU :)

The games today won’t even push a 6600gt; i believe there's no point in paying £450 odd quid to get a ge-force 7 yet, no software will even use it yet unless it’s for Media and animation type tasks.

Well considering what I'm willing to pay for a video card I consider it a good price, I always use NewEgg.com just like CSUnited. No one ever seems to beat them in price, just their shipping is a lil expensive sometimes, but very fast delivery. Their is a link to the processor in my first post, that is the site I buy from.

Your probably right, its more machine than I will need for a long while. But Sometimes, its all about the bragging rights.

well if you want a more futureproof card and the bragging rights... go for the 6800gt ... but the 6600gt is also a great card.. and if this mismatched cards in SLi is true then you can get a 6800gt in the future:) ...

what sort of games will you be playing ? if i were u i would try and stretch to a 6800gt... wait for a LITTLE bit and see if the price lowers :) ... if u cant wait :D .. lol save up that little bit more money :) sell your playstation or whatever you have :) .. before the new ones come out! thats what im planning on doing :p

I don't own any consoles besides my GBA SP. I think I'm defnatley going for the 6800gt, get paid tommorow. I play any games that are recomended, mostly RPG. I just love turning all the resolutions and all the special effect on. I love it if when playing a game it looks like a movie.
