the parts will be used to make a dedicated curnching machine
Yep, we have one already ... we are short of motherboards, CPUs & memory ... :D

We have "The Michael John Webb PC" as our first sponsord cruncher. :thumb:

Hi Guys and Gals, I'm back from my Dads now (won't say much about that except things are grim) - thanks to Mucks for getting the first adopt-a-rig up and running, and thank you all for agreeing to the name, I have to say it cheers me up whenever I see his name in the Stats - I just hope he makes it to No1!!:thumb:

Thanks again folks:)

Nice to see you Andy :thumb:

Mucks has a plan ... I think I can arrange "The M.J.W. PC" to be in No1 spot ... at least it will be on our stats sheet. ;)

Sorted

Keep the case ... it will save on postage and I can get them free ... but we'll take the board no problem.

email sent :thumb:

Heres a thought if none of my parts, when they get to you, i think they are that old they would sell for a lot as antiques, and then you could use that monwey to buy new/second hard parts that are needed

I am short of a HD & case for a second cruncher.

I have 2 Intel PIII 233 that need memory, 100/133 and HDs ... Linux will work on them as the MBs are all on-board everything.

Let us know what you have.

I have an old Seagate ST38641A HD, but its only 8.61GB according to this spec sheet HERE.

Let me know if its any use...

I also have a 4 sticks of 168pin PC133 SDRAM as well - I know 2 are 128MB, no idea about the other 2....

Well the ram will be useful, not too sure on the HD ... looking at the minimum spect to run Boinc & WGC on Linux I was hoping to find a couple of 20gigers.

We can give it a shot anyway if you want Ady ... I had already tested the boards & CPUs out and they run fine. I used my brothers old 6gig and WinME ran as sweet as a nut ... Linux did not like the HD though.

Well I'll send the RAM to you, will have to check the postage for the HD though - it seems a bit heavy and may not be worth it.

Do you still live at Flat 6, The Hovel etc...? :D

I'll have a look on ebay now and see if I can find any bargain crunching machines or job lots of bits! Must be some bargain over there that would be of some use.

Will report back :thumb:

Yep, still in the same Hovel ... and hang on to the HD for now. :thumb:

Will report back
OK ... :D

Can only find rubbish on ebay at the moment, but I've seen bargains in the past - if anyone spots anything good, drop me a PM :)

Hi Mucks, just wondering - did you receive the RAM I sent?

oops :o I didn't send a PM, did I :o

Yes, and it works ... still trying to find a couple of small (40gig) HDs ... we'll keep them 'in the pool' so if anybody that is short for a cruncher, give us a shout. :thumb:

Sorry about that ... :o
