Yes, there probably is something else going on. But he is saying it still
happens after everything is supposed to be set up. Hiding a drive may not
mean the same thing we think it does with Disk Director.

By the way, did you check the box for Force Hiding Partitions on the Edit
Operating Systems wizard? See page 93.

Hiding a drive in Disk Director results in one thing. When the PC boots to
Vista it crashes with a blue screen error:

Stop: c000021a {fatal system error}
The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly
with a ststus of 0xc0000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down

Go back into XP and 'unhide' the Vista partition and then reboot and the PC
boots as if nothing has happened.

So hiding partitions using Acronis Disk Director is a definate No Go!

Disk Director, like TweakUI does hide the partition from other users. But in
my experiment hiding the Vista partition obviously did something because the
system wouldn't work at all.

I have a full backup image of the XP and Vista partitions, so i think i'm
simply going to disable system restore altogether. Incremental backups are
done regularly so i can't see the sense in wasting my time with system
restore.

just an update. Paragon Hard Disk manager version 8.0 does exactly the same
as Acronis Disk Director when you hide the partition. In other words, the
Vista drive crashes on boot up with the same error message as i outlined in
my post regarding Acronis Disk Director. Oh well, another failure!
