Ghost View 2.1 is still very much alive and available at a numer of sites:

This particular site is a LOOOONG URL from University of Minnesota
and I have provided a TinyURL for convenience. I have tried it a couple
of times, and it does work to pull down GSVIEW21.ZIP (Freeware)

The necessary Ghost Script installation (GS403 for Windows) is here:

The link you posted points to gsview 2.1. As you will note,
we've already established that it is not nagware.

What I'm trying to find out is if there is a later version
(between 2.1 and 4.3) that is also not nagware.

What's the problem with getting it to work? Any error messages?

Thanks for asking. I really don't remember, as this was several months
ago. I do remember this, though -- that the output PDFs were only 1 KB in
size and, of course, unopenable. I used Ghostscript 7.x and 8.x (not
concurrently) and used MakePDF to convert from PRN (PS) files to PDF. I
did print-to-files, but it just wouldn't work ...
