I got the memory.....now just got to get the chip.......AMD 3000
xp.......coming to get you....

Dave :)

Ron..something nagging me........I think my PSU inside the case is only
300 - will this be suitable or will I have to upgrade that too ?

Dave :)

Dave,
2 of the a7v8x-x systems I built were only 300 watt power supplies - No
Problems. (Taking into consideration that your 300 watt is in good
condition)

If you add more hardware in the future you might consider a more powerfull
supply.

Great stuff Ron, thanks

Dave :)

RonK, can you have a look at this processor and let me know if this is a
good deal. It loks good to me but it says that it is a sempron but the specs
made me think it was not.

www.powerc.com

processors / athlon 3000

Thanks for your time again........i'm very close to that upgrade....

My current set up has 2 hard drives/ cd writer/dvd writer and the uasual
cards......this is what lead me to think that the power supply might not
cope.

Dave :)

also...on the CPU front....there are quite a few on Ebay going for around
the £60 - £65 mark.....

some are very tempting

Dave :)

I just got an email back from the company who say that the sempron now has
512 L2 cache

lost or what..............

the athlon XP 3000 is loking the best bet at just over sixty quid....

Dave

Hey Dave,

That Sempron 3000+ is very close to the Athlon XP3000+ but it runs at 2.0
Gig where the Athlon XP 3000+ runs at 2.16 Gig.

If the price difference is a lot then go for the Sempron 3000+.

Ron

Its now £70 (with a fan!)but I can get a brand new athlon xp 3000 for About
£64 inc postage from sellers on ebay...I think i might try the ebay option
as they are being sold as "new" and they run at the 2.16 gig.

Dave :)

Dave and Ron,
Greetings and hallucinations from just north of Fantasy Land (Washington,
DC)!
In the settings for the Display / Settings / Advanced / Monitor / Refresh
Rate, is it set to somthing like Optimum? You could try to set it at 75 or
85 Hz and see what flies.
Peace,
Paul
