A Virgin wanna be gamer would like advice

I am finding this Linux thing more satisfying than I ever did with Windows and obviously more challenging but that is half the fun you can play with it and it does not break not like Windows. It is quicker to install if you break it providing you have backed up and there is plenty of help out there on the net. Also you do not have to pay to get licences for software like Office and all the other software you need like you do with Microsoft offerings. Yep a very happy bunny.:thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

I know someone who can totally bork a linux set up, sometimes even before it is fully installed.

Every gamer should play it at least once it is a tad old fashioned but you get to use a crowbar.

I am surprised that no one has suggested this to bootneck02. With all his real life experience he should be able to breeze through as a veteran :lol:

an along with HL it is a must play for any gamer starting out.

But CoD1 doesn't play on either Win 7, 8.1, 10 or Linux :confused:

Seems to get good results in WINE. Mind you that is not native linux. Still it will run on a penguin. :cool:

I don't wish to appear rude or derogatory and the following is purely my opinion but...

WINE sucks.

Huge big dangly ones.

And imo

Anybody serious about Linux boycotts WINE.

Dual-booting any Linux Distro with XP is worthwhile though (imo). Can then also play Nocturne and TOCA Race Car Three (amongst others).

CoD2 will run in Win 7 though, albeit with a bit of an initial struggle to get it installed.

Nahh still here, Busy downloading my CD collection onto Banshee taking a lot of time, and I have hundreds to go:(

Yes, I have a back up from when I was Running Windows but unfortunately they will not transfer to Linux Mint:(

Can you run this command in a terminal and post the result.

Code:
$ lsblk

You should see something similar to this

$ lsblk

Is the windows disc/partition on the same pc as your Mint ?

:cool:

No I have not got W10 on my hard drive as I reformatted it before I installed Mint as I felt if I got into difficulties with Mint I would revert back to W10 and not grapple with solve the problem with Linux, so far haven’t had any problems. As far as CMD I have a book on it but so far not tackled that so far.I am sorry but will be out of touch as we have a family bereavement and will not be able to sit down and sort the PC for a couple of days, but thank for the tip will be back in touch after tomorrow and the funeral.
