I had the same problems but fixed it, with side effects. If you go to your
advanced tab in your options and look where your store folder is, you can
find your messages. If you look in your trash under Local Folders, your
e-mail is actually gone, you will see no .eml files.

I deleted a whole bunch of "search" folders that were in there for some
reason then moved the location of my store folder to a temp folder. When I
went back in I still couldn't delete the trash but I went to change my store
folder back and it was already set to where it was before I changed it.
Closed windos mail and went back in and was able to empty trash.

The e-mail program started recovering some e-mails and put them in a
"Recovered Messages" folder in my local folders. Waited a while for it to
finish and moved the ecovered files back to their corect folder. Hope this
works for you.

I just installed the fix. However, previously I had seen one of your
instructions to delete the two copies of the "WindowsMail.MSMessageStore"
file - when I did that, several folders of messages were corrupted. Is there
any way to get back what I lost? Tks for your help.

Have you checked the Recovered Messages folder?

I haven't suggested that method since 941090 came out.

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common
antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee,
or a recent one from Trend, tend to cause such problems, although
seldom immediately, so if you have such a program, remember
where to find the fix - you are likely to need it again.

I right clicked the message and chose "mark as unread" and then I could
delete it.

ROBERT MILES, YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!!!
Your fix worked like a charm for me with a message stuck in my inbox.

I had the same problem. The only work around I figured out, no thanks to
Microsoft because their solutions never work...is to right click on the
deleted items folder and select empty deleted item folders. In my situation
it managed to get rid of the emails that I could not delete, the only catch
was, it only got rid of 1 email at a time instead of deleting everything in
one fell swoop. As for Microsoft? Shame on them. They just have broke-ass
software. I am seriously contemplating switching to Mac next year.

Looks like you have not yet found Microsoft's latest solution. Download and
install it with Windows Mail not running:
