Hi,

Does anyone know where i can purchase a 6 pin to 6 pin pci-e modular cable from?

I got a modular power supply but it didn't come with the 6 pin cables, when i asked them about it, i was told it came with 6 pin support and not the cables. Any ideas?

Have looked all over the net but can't find anywhere that sells additional cables.

Cheers guys.

Had a look on the Maplins site and can't find any, if you could provide a link that would be great.

Had look there as well, can only find the molex to 6 pin adaptors.

Cheers for the input though.

What make is the modular power supply?

The cable may be peculiar to the manufacturer and not a commonly available lead.

However, it is worth checking the cables section of all the most popular computer parts suppliers: OCUK; E-Buyer; Komplett; Scan; Kustom PC's etc.

Also worth taking a look at RS Electronic Components and Farnell/CPC and maybe Cricklewood Electronics.

Its an OCZ, i phoned their support and they said they can't sell individual cables, however it is a common six pin plug used by various other manufacterers,

Will try some of the sites you suggested,

Thanks again flopps.

Well, i'm gonna cry,

have managed to find one at Frozencpu.com, yep after 5 or 6 hours now trying to find one the only places who have them is the good old USA.

Is gonna cost £23 though.

Well i might just ebay my PSU as i can't return it anymore and buy another one, making sure to read the spec very very very very very carefully.

Will hang on until the weekend just incase someone has a spare or finds one in the UK.

could you not somehow make one of these?

like do you have a similar sort of cable like this that isnt 6 pins and is more like 8 or 10?

what do u need it for?

I should imagine as his OP says PCI-E it will be a PCI-E power lead ;)

I worked that bit out :) :)

but from where to where is it going to?

psu to on the motherboard, graphics card or whatever else.

If its a PCI-E power lead then I imagine it will be going from the PSU to a graphics card :D

got ya

out of interest do you know if all pci-e graphics cards need some sort of additonal power running from the PSU?

because I am wondering if I can keep my Tagan 420 W for my intel, gigabyte and quad core, pci-e gfx upgrade. I got two sata leads, the additional 12v lead. I got lots of molex connectors and a good load of molex to satas.
could save myself a few bob by keeping it.

It will be from the PSU to the graphics card, if anyone has any ideas on how to make one then i'm all ears.

Not all do - but the latest and greatest will do - just check the specs.

I reckon you could take the end plug off one of the spare modular leads if you have one and re-wire it to a 6-pin PCI-E plug - obviously you would need to ensure the wiring is done correctly.

See if you can get hold of a plug, or maybe take one off a PCI-E to molex adapter?

^^ I was thinking the same but if you get it wrong could be leathel.

Did you check google?

I have two older PSU, which came free with cases, would i be able to cut the 6 pin cables from the psu then wire a 6 pin connection on to the end?

Would i be able to test this without blowing anything up?

If they are 6-pin PCI-E plugs then I don't see why not - regarding the wiring I would speak to Flops who is a whiz on this kind of thing - or as psd says have you tried goggling?

Another thought - could you not just use a PCI-E to molex adapter to connect to a modular molex cable on the PSU?

I could, however i am a big fan of tidy cabling and i have 2x 6 pin connections on my psu and want to use those.

Plus i don't have many molex connections left after the modding i am doing.
