What in the hell is ATI thinking? This is the first Catalyst driver that is
a "downgrade".
Didn't they test this crap before releasing it on us? How in the hell did it
pass WHQL??

What problems are you having with 3.8? How is adding new features and
fixing problems a downgrade?

I say: what in the hell are YOU thinking?
This release is not a downgrade.
I use it without any problems, it's stable, it has got new features.
Rethink it.

It stops Ghost Recon from working properly on my PC, so I didn't have
to think too long before going back to 3.7.

Of course it couldn't be your PC could it? ;-)

Easy way to find out if there is something inherently wrong with 3.8 and
Ghost Recon is to find somebody playing it with 3.8s

It was a downgrade for me. 3.7 is beautifully stable. I installed 3.8 and
Halo BSODs often in 1024x768. Go back to the 3.7 and now it's stable at
1024x768.

3.8 drivers are buggy from my experience.

they stink why? cause none of the carry over problems (like NO MMX ON A P4) the infamous 'echo' on some MAJOR sound cards during
delay recording....things along those lines....that and MY 2d went to crap....

It could be my PC, but I'm running some pretty good gear and I never had any
trouble with 3.7 drivers. When I loaded 3.8 I had trouble with Ghost Recon,
BF 1942, and some parts of CS 1.6. These problems went away when I went
back to 3.7.

I vote for 3.8 being the cause of problems. When 3.7 came out, I don't
recall anyone complaining about problems over previous driver versions.

It's not you. These 3.8 drivers broke a number of games that worked fine pre
3.8. I give you 'IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles' as a perfect example.
Get some real beta testers ATI and not some dweebs that only know program
manager and MS Office.

I play IL2:FB with the 3.8's. What problems are you having? 3.8 also
fixed MSFS2004 menus.

It's just human nature, I guess. Every time there's a major driver release
from ATI, or a new OS from Microsoft, or and new version of NAV, etc, etc,
etc, people crawl out of the woodwork to declare them:

1.) A miraculous gift to computer users, curing all ill and transforming
every PC into a powerhouse, or

2.) A software version of demonic possession that will transform the most
stable system into a smouldering pile of useless silicon.

It's all pretty silly, and predictable. The only difference here is the
level of mass hysteria and the number of otherwise intelligent people who
are willing to believe unsupported rumors from anonymous posters while
ignoring detailed refutations from the people who actually engineered the
drivers.

This game stopped working. Works for me. Blew up my monitor. Mine's working
fine. On it goes.

Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter of the software soap operas.

Working great here with Halo and Max Payne 2 on a 9500 Pro.

If you have an 8500 - 9200, Halo BSODs for just about everyone with any
drivers except foer 3.0 or older it seems. gearbox is blaming ATI, people
are pointing at gearbox, etc., etc. I am using a 8500LE 128MB and Halo BSODs
on me unless I use 3.0, but there are other games I play so I am using the
3.8 drivers and just waiting for a fix for Halo as it is the only game
causing said problem.

that pretty much explains everything.

DVD's looked horrible with 3.8.
went back to 3.7 and the crystal clear picture is back on my Sony 21"

What I like the best, is the many posts that basically say "My system
was working perfectly, so I thought something needed to change". I
mean, I would guess there was a REASON for the upgrage in the first
place. I wonder if people think like that about things other than
computers? Do people take their car to a mechanic and say "It's
running GREAT, better rebuild the engine and replace the
transmission", or go to the Doctor and say "I'm feeling REAL GOOD, got
anything to change that?"

Weird, eh?
