Ah ! Multiple actions eh ? Good.
I was also wondering why you didn't have a "sent" folder with 4000
emails in. Put there over the last 3 days. Do you not keep "sent"
email or did you not notice ?
Or did the keep a copy of sent emails but NOT those that were the
result of "auto-responding" ?
Everything to do with my "spam counterattack" was auto-deleted. The idea
was that I wouldn't be troubled by the spam, but the spammers would. In
20/20 hindsight, this was a stupid idea on several levels:
1) I got killed as a spammer myself
2) I was contributing to the general email traffic of the net (although
slightly less so because I run a mailserver from my desktop)
3) It just told the spammers that it was a valid email address. My spam
load increased after my experiment
In the end, I logged into the webmail interfaces of my various accounts
and set up "delete from server" filters there for the worst
offenders/keyphrases which has cut down on the spam enormously. Not all
services provide filters, but they are well worth using if they do.
Thanks. If the above can be done in the Bat then it shows that it is
possible. Then I/others can look for something in freeware that will
do the same.
Good luck. I've been looking for an app to equal the Bat for years.
It's got sophisticated filter/template/actions that I've not seen
anywhere else. Eudora is sophisticated too, but that's more suited to
doing complicated things with one identity (or was when I last checked,
anyway). Many mailing-list operators swear by Eudora. But the free
version is adware, I believe.
Sylpheed-Claws has multiple account support, and can also call external
programs as actions, but setting it up would be complicated, I think.

Calypso Email

Would also be a contender. It has some good filters and templates
apparently; but it runs off the IE engine *I believe (could be wrong)*
which is a minus for me. Screen shot of filters:

Fox Mail
http://fox.foxmail.com.cn/english.htm
Is an excellent app, and does some sophisticated stuff too.
All of the above are worthy appz which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend
to anybody, but don't have the toys that I already have in (and this is
important) the manner that I am used to.
Okay, I suspected that. Not a good idea for people with limited
download quotas.
True. Those people would be much better off logging into the webmail
interface and filtering from there. If available, this is a much better
way of doing things.
Incidentally, here's a recipe for a cheap, 1 email address, fake
autoresponder for information packs etc.
On your website, have a link something to the effect of:
"To get the information pack, click here:
mailto:
[email protected]?subject=Send_me_the_pack
This automatically fills in the subject line of the email with a text
string of your choosing. The underscores are important because some
older clients choke if you use spaces.
Set up your email program to detect incoming emails with the subject line
of Send_me_the_pack, and set the action to reply to the sender using
either a template or (less satisfactory) an attached text file containing
the desired information. If your mail client won't do either of those
things, then it may be time to consider a change anyway.
And that's it. Easy huh? Of course, it only works when you pick up your
email, so it's not a proper autoresponder...but it can save a lot of work
if used peoperly.
