KB835732

Peter Newman

I just installed the suggested Windows2000 upgrades. My
computer totally slowed to a crawl. I did this on other
machine that I work with and the same thing happened.
This computer had the "Go-back" software installed so I
was able to uninstall the individual components and
discovered that KB835732 was to blame. After 10 hours of
navigating through Win2000 and uninstalling this "upgrade"
my original computer now works fine. KB835732 is a
disaster and should be further tested before being
inflicted on the public. Please rewrite this terrible bit
of code!

PS: I'd love to charge you for the time I've taken to get
my computer back in shape. Never mind, just make sure next
time I am invited to do a security upgrade it doesn't
screw my computer up, OK????

I have had the same problem. My SUS server sent out the
update last night. When I got in this morning my windows
2000 machine running a production CMM system was downed
due to the system service taking 100% CPU.

This machine is a windows 2000 SP4 install. I booted the
machine into safe mode and uninstalled the 835732 patch.
Please let me know if there is a resolution to this
problem.

Paul.

I had the same problem but Just on one machine so far. I
called MS support and they said to check the Newsgroup.

Check the newsgroup for what? A resolution or a new patch?

I don't think all the machines in my network downloaded
the patch from the SUS server and rebooted last night. I
am just crossing my fingers at this point, but at least
the quick solution is to boot into safe mode and uninstall
the patch.

We've installed it on several test machines (servers and workstations) and not have encountered any issues. Do you have anything custom on your machines?

Nothing custom other than applications, EDS unigraphics workstation was one.
A CMM inspection machine was the other.

I created a service ticket with microsoft and they said to try an inplace
upgrade in safe mode after the patch is uninstalled.

So - uninstall the patch.
Boot into safe mode and re-install using the patch package from the download
page, not windows update.

Have not tried it yet. Was waiting for another answer.

I've installed it on some Win 2000 workstations. No processing problems have appeared, but Adobe Acrobat refuses to start on some of those machines - it appears to be starting, but simply closes itself.

I had the same problem but did not have the GO BACK
feature. I just spent approx $500 to find out it was a
MSN problem. Maybe I should send MSN the bill!
