In response to a helpful suggestion in this newsgroup,
I added ZoneAlarm to block unwanted intrusions and it's
a nice program........but it adds something undesirable.
When coming out of hibernation, ZoneAlarm blocks all
Internet access. ZoneAlarm Forum has suggested adding
specific IP addresses to their no-block list but that
isn't easy to do with their interface, and people in
their forum (and I) feel that this is a bug they ought
to fix. Any other workarounds will be welcome.
By the way, also suggested were SnoopFree and AntiHook,
both of which have more serious drawbacks.

I also have had recent problems with Zone Alarm...of all things...blocking
my outgoing email.
No matter how many times I reset it...
it would simply go back to blocking.

Anyway I finally gave up entirely on Zone Alarm and have now installed
Comodo firewall.
It was a free download and for me , it works perfectly.

Will it work for you?..I don't know but it may be worth a try

William,
ZoneAlarm is an excellent program-I concur. Have not personally experienced
this problem although, on some computers, hibernation is a touchy problem.

Go ahead and try adding the addresses. ZA settings can be intimidating but
go ahead and play around with the firewall section. You also might want to
take a look at any hibernation options/settings on your system. Perhaps
there is a solution there. Myself, I avoid the hibernation mode like the
plague.

Hibernation is great! It works great and saves a lot of time. It has
function. Zone Alarm
on the other hand performs no useful function (is not needed).

Since my previous post, I went back and forth with
a guru in the Zone Alarm User Forum and they showed me
how to solve the problem. It wasn't all that difficult;
all I had to do was put my IP and DNS stuff into Zone Alarm
and it's been working okay. But so far it hasn't succeeded
in blocking all of the adware stuff that simply accessing
Snopes or EBAY dump onto my machine. Thanks for the added
suggested source.........

Thanks, Karl. I like hibernation because it saves me a bunch
of time every time I want to start the system up from being
cold.

Dear 'UN':
I'm with you on hibernation. And maybe Zone Alarm doesn't
perform a useful function.......but I got the impression
that it could block the installing in my PC 20 hooks that
report back my comings and goings. So far ZA and ZA-Pro
do not block them.....you got something that does?

William,
Up in that "Search Microsoft.com for:" box, type in the word "hibernation"
without the quotes and click on the Go button.

Possibly one of the causes/explanations of hibernation problems is
applicable to this particular problem.

I started having networking problems when I installed a new wireless
card. Solution was to put the command to start ZoneAlarm in my
startup folder so the network drivers were started first.
Might be a clue there.

Sorry, I do not. But, for what it's worth, I run a computer with nothing
more than
what Microsoft offers in the way of security. I purchased it prior to SP2
and
have updated to current level. I have NEVER had a problem of any type with
this computer with the exception of unwanted e-mail which I filter out.
It seems to me, most of the malware, and virus detect programs cause more
problems
than prevent. I do not open unknown mail, click on unknown URLs etc.
