Zippy Windows

Hi there,

Has anyone got any examples of using Windows API's to compress and
decompress ZIP files. I can't seem to find one example yet I know that the
functionality is in there. I have taken a look at the
SetupDecompressOrCopyFile function which appears to be able to decompress a
ZIP compressed file, but I am unsure if this is the API that Windows uses.

If you have Windows XP and ME (I think) there is integrated ZIP
functionality, right clicking on a folder for example and taking a look in
the "Send To" menu you will see "Compressed (Zipped) folder", I want to be
able to do this in code hopefully *without* using any 3rd part DLL's such as
that of the Sharp Zip library. I'm sure someone else has wanted to do this?

there's a post to this question earlier in the week. xp/me does use a 3rd
party dll. you can look up the manufacuter's web site from that post, go to
the site, get their product documentation and proceed with caution.

Are you sure you only want to target Windows Me and Windows XP machines?

Yeah, I looked into the DLL with notepad and found "Inner Media" and
DynaZip. I sent them a few emails also to try to get some more information,
not that they will give me any! :-)

Outlook Express has been messing about big style, so sorry for the delay in
my response. I couldn't even recieve new messages!!

If the technology is there then I want to utilize it, if not then I don't
want to utilize it. It isn't for mission critcal purposes but it would be
very handy to know how to use this "DynaZIP" thing, not that there is any
documentation anywhere.

I feel that it is hidden, well sorry, I know that it is hidden, bugggeerrr.

I was trying to shy away from 3rd party DLL's, just because I don't want
my application relying on other peoples code other than Microsoft, but now
that I found out it isn't Microsoft's code anyway I suppose it doesn't
matter, but then again it should be pretty good in relation to competitors.
I'm very surprised that there isn't any documentation anywhere on the net
(illegitimate or not).

Well at least I know my emails to them are going to be completely
ignored :-) Which is nice, I can't find any examples of the zipfldr.dll
being used anywhere, I can't even find the exports of it. Maybe I need
software to solve my software issues, oh well, at least OE is working again!

you can wrap the info-zip stuff into a class library, I've done it it was
fairly easy.

I might make the wrapper available later on this year, I hope that's not too
late.
 
You are right -- Outlook Express sucks today. I am using gnus as a
newsreader now together with my hamster. Really cool.

Sorry, I don't have an idea on how to access Windows XP's ZIP
functionality. You may want to ask in one of the Win32 programming groups.

Outlook Express was not able to get the messages from the
<msnews.microsoft.com> server today. I use gnus now... I tested it a
little bit and I hope my messages show up correctly now.
 
What do you get if you cross a gnu with a hamster?

I don't know, but if you mix a Herfried in as well - the mind boggles!!
