A new version of ZipGenius was released on Oct 31 - Version 5.2.5.425..

What is ZipGenius like? It looks like Bloatware. Any comments?

Yes: why do you find it as "Bloatware"?

Well compared to all the other File Compression Programs that I have used
and installed, ZipGenius is twice to 8 times the size. Perhaps it is the
compiler that you are using...

No, it's because it does more than the others: encrypted SFX files,
support to other archive formats, complete shell extensions, and
nice-looking GUI with lots of graphics (sidebar and toolbar skins, ZG
Themes) all require lots of coding. The single "zipgenius.exe" is
sized 6548 KB when still uncompressed, then UPX shrinks it (and all
other .exe and .dll files) to 1540 KB.
If people want more, they have (unfortunately, I know that) to
download more.
I'm trying to build a zip-only program (Project ZipGenius Micro:
further details on ZipGenius Forum - http://www.zipgenius.it/forum/ )
without skins and bitmaps, no sidebar, no support to other formats, no
backup functions, but it seems to be of no interest to anyone. A
friend of mine at wininizio.it (where I send program previews) told
me: "do we really need this?"
I still ask to my self if we really need it and I'm going to answer
"no".
That's why I'm back on ZG to code next version (5.5.x) which will
offer ZIP64 format (archives larger than 4 GB) through the ZipForge
engine. This means that the final setup size may be smaller, but I'm
going to add new functions to "Backup" menu.

It's *very* fully featured. It has some bloat, but the user interface is so
good, it doesn't matter at all.

Well said. There are plenty of other free archivers if you want small.
Try the archivers on www.tinyapps.org.

That's a pity. It's very nice, as I said in my beta testing. Perfect for
basic users.

Thanks for letting us know. Please post your news here. It's good to keep
in touch.

(Is it possible to add support for multipart rar files?)

In 1990 360k was bloatware because it didn't fit on a floppy.

1990 6Mb $15.00 to download $70.00 of HD space
2003/1 6Mb $00.05 to download $00.02 of HD space.
2003/4 6Mb $00.03 to download $00.01 of HD space.

the download is 4/1 compressed
sometime soon it will be closer to zero cents than 1 cent

Matteo, Thanks for providing a nice, full featured, multi format archiver.
It is a large file but it runs well, has nice features and will handle a lot
of formats. I have used it for the past 2 years on several machines. Keep up
the good work, and thanx.
