zero filesize on certain macintosh filetypes

Hi,

I have seen this issue at two different sites. One site is running Windows
2000 SFM and the other is running Windows 2003 SFM. The problem is, that on
some (haven't tried them all) filetypes there seems to be no content in the
files seen from the server itself with explorer. For instance Quark
INposition files or Macintosh font files appear to have no content, and have
a filesize of zero kB. When you look at those files on the SFM volume, you
can clearly see they have a filesize (i.e. 40 kB) and when you doubleclick,
it will open the associated program and display it's contents.

It doesn't matter if you use OS 9 or OS X on the same SFM volume. Seen from
a Mac, it all seems fine, seen from the server itself, it appear to be empty
files.

The reason for asking is that we have an application that has hotfolder
funtionality. If anything gets dropped in a folder, it's automaticallly
picked up and processed. I think that the reason for the files not being
picked up is because the Windows explorer shows the files as empty files. I
have done some searching and I think it might be related that for example Mac
font files actually don't have any data in the datafork and only have
information in the resource fork, hence the empty files... Is there someone
that has seen something similar, are there known workarounds?

Thanks in advance,

For a better understanding of how Mac forks are dealt with, use Google

You can either change the creating application to only use the data
fork, or, you can change the hotfolder application to be aware of
alternate streams.
