My computer has been infected with the "yupsearch" toolbar
and I can't get rid of it. MSAS does not get rid of it.
Even worse, yupsearch has disabled the real-time
autoprotection of MSAS. When I try to reactivate it, it
just goes back to "deactivated" by itself. This is truly
an insidious malware!

Can anyone help me get rid of this pest?

Thanks,

Johanus

Hi

This one is indeed tricky.......

- First send a suspected spyware report to MS about this.
menu tools within MSAS (if possible-report bug )

- Download CCleaner, www.ccleaner.com and remove all temporarily junk.

- Download/Install Lavasofts Adaware
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022-10399602.html?tag=list

After install upgrade Adaware definitions with "Check for updates".

- Download http://www.simplytech.it/ETRemover/ and install.

- Restart in safe mode, press F8 during reboot just before Windows flag
screen appears.

- Scan first with ETremover them with MSAS and Lavasoft Adaware, choose
"full scans".

And let us know if it works.............

Hi

I tried your suggestions and it worked!
I am disappointed with MSAS. I switched to it from AdaAware
and the others. Now I have to switch back.

Thank you very much!

Have U tried using RegEdit?
see what is in
HKCU/software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
VERIFY THAT ALL FILES LISTED ARE LEGIT and can be found
at the location specified...
Another option is to use MSCONFIG and check the STARTUP
files; again making sure that the files are LEGIT and
canbe found at the location specified
