Has anyone come across this, and how far is it spyware or an email
harvester?

What it does is to allow you to upload to its site files that are too
big to email. Then your email recipient gets a message from YouSendIt
telling them there is a file for download and giving them the link.

Seems wholly reliable to me; I've used it a few times. I have no idea
if it harvests addresses or not. I always take the precaution of
mailing a file to myself, and sending the link to the recipient. That
way, if they are harvesting, they only harvest me.

That's reassuring -- and a very good idea over emailing yourself.

Thanks for your help.

Use it all the time. Heard of it first here, of course -- it was
mentioned almost as an aside in a long thread on a somewhat different
topic, IIRC. For a while, there were problems at the site -- seems even
an offhand mention on a.c.f. was enough to overload 'em. That seems to
have been taken care of.

The trick with sending it to yourself and then emailing the link is a
clever one. I haven't been given any reason to believe the site is
harvesting addys. In my mind, the best reason to follow that procedure
would be to keep the intended recipient from accidentally deleting an
email from an unknown source -- presumably, you are known to the
recipient, and can tell them what's up right then and there. No more
work for me, either -- I always send a "heads-up" email anyway.

Good for sending a file to a usenet request without binary access
also.
They can't possibly last, unfortunately.

I like the 'trick' of sending the file to yourself (presumably using a
throw-away hotmail or yahoo email account) but I also make sure I send the
file or files as a password-protected Zip file too. That way, if "they" are
retaining files and looking for "interesting stuff" (which, by the way, I
would be astounded to find out...) they get nothing from me...

Has anyone been able to use this with Mozilla? I've used it several times
and it's a great option but I can't get it to work with Mozilla. I have to
use avantbrowser when I send mail using this site.

I've used it successfully with Firefox, which is based on Mozilla...
