I thought it might be interesting to see how our Vista Performance Index changes from PC to PC (and to see how it actually scales across different hardware).

I've got a Q6600 G0 2.4 @ 3.0Ghz (at the time of this benchmark), ASUS P5K, XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB PCI-E, 2GB PC2-6400 C4 Extreme Performance (2x1GB) and 320GB Maxtor Diamondmax SATA2 8MB.

The scores come out at 5.9 for each item, apart from hard drives which rate at 5.6 (hence the overall score of 5.6).

My system is detailed in my signature.

I have one of the first 6600's made, I think, I built this system in November 2006.

Not overclocked, I couldn't get past 2.6Ghz and for the extra gain I didn't think it was worth it so I went back to stock.

Hmmm, does it really mean anything ??

I can't see any practical use, except for bragging rights ... so, I win!

That's just it... I don't know if the Windows Experience Index really shows much at all ;) Once we've got a few more results it will be interesting to see how things compare.

err, sorry Ian,

That is a real snip of my score sheet ...

I tried photoshop once, found it difficult to even open a folder, never mind a pic. ;)

Here is mine. Just out of curiosity, I also tried it using my "memory boost" USB 4 GB Cruzer which produced no difference at all in the scores - although it's quite useful for other stuff:)

If anyone is interested, there is a Perfect Score website and a bit of further reading over on the Microsoft website, reveals that they are aiming to increase the Perfect Score to way beyond the current 5.9 rating. Link here.

Personally I find the whole thing meaningless inasmuch as a large proportion of the weighting is gpu.....and for those like me who don't game a fancy gpu is pointless.

High end gaming rig will outscore a crunching rig.
