Generally -- not ready for release, but overall, very good.
It's close.
Close? I don't think so...
Still lots of obvious bugs, incomplete features, and inconsistent
windows across Vista. I can see the final product will need a lot of
regular updates and I seriously doubt all the obvious bugs will be
fixed prior to release.
Heck, they haven't fixed XP yet, nevermind Vista.
For instance, Windows Explorer in XP after all the updates STILL
doesn't update and refresh properly. In XP if you copy and paste from
one folder to another, the folder tree would not always refresh. This
still has not been addressed. That's just one of several obvious "in
your face" issues that have never been fixed.
Another is the unused folder close out. You click on a folder to open
it. The last folder used should close and maintain a concise tree, but
instead it starts leaving everything open and you have to close them
behind you. If not you have to start scrolling like mad to get back
and forth.
Oddly enough they have a selective option in IE, but not Explorer.
And who was the dummy that came up with the new start button that is
too big for the taskbar? It gets partially covered up by other windows
and the edge of the screen at the bottom. That's just sloppy.
And why did they go back to the scrolling programs menu? For people
like me who install lots of programs, it's a pain in the ass. I much
preferred the cascading menu which was faster and easier to get to a
program. At least give us the option to choose scrolling or cascading.
Vista is being promoted as connected, clear, and confident.
But I think it'll just end up being XP + some goodies instead of a new
version. But hey, as long as Microsoft can make another few billion
dollars, who cares about bugs and non working features, right?
