I remember about 5 years ago, I used to format my PC every few months for one reason or another.

I don't think I've done that to this PC since I first turned it on! A first for me :D

Anyone here that likes to start afresh quite often?

ive done it afew times because of worms and trojans had to wait 30 secs between clicks

but after re format put proper anti -v firewall and adware spyware removers etc

now works fine and takes 10 secs to get to my desktop from the press of the power button

Yes every 3 or 4 months it keeps the HDD nice and healthy>runs faster>gets rid of all the little nasties [not that I have any]:D it is completed and every thing installed in about 2hrs;) I don`t have to but it is my choice:cool:

I am waiting?

i only format if its the last resort, my current system has almost 2 years since it was built without a reinstall

Same here, i haven't formatted this yet and had it about two years.

Formatted about 3 weeks ago only because my HDD went down and had to get a new one...

So started afresh anyway with a nice new 250gb Hitachi Deskstar....:D

I re-ghost my machine weekly normally, takes around 15minutes and requires one DVD.

All of my documents are stored on the network anyway, the re-ghosting just gets rid of the crap which acumlulates during the week ;)

The only format my PCs get is when I first install ... ;)

:)

Haven't done a fresh install on main machine now for over two years, I think.

Using XP pro. I can remember with Win 98 having to re-install every few months.

And haven't had to re-install Suse 10 - yet ;)

I am not really in favour of a reformat unless it is the only way to get the system to work. My home rig is working fine for over a year now and the last format done was when my main HD died and had to get a new one.

As for my laptop, it is having the IBM software Rescue and recovery which I have automated to take backups every day at specified time. Although I did have to revert to previous backups but never had to reformat it since I acquired it. The major problem with BSOD's I had was due to ATI drivers and once the new drivers were released the problem was solved.

Haven't reformatted this baby since I first installed, but had to do my old G3 once when it started eating photographs. My Anti-virus program couldn't find anything but the photo data kept disappearing/degrading. Luckily i had most of it backed up to disk so i just re-installed & it's been fine since. But did lose a few photos that weren't backed up :( nothing to do about that though, so I back up more often & store images I want easy acces to on the web. Better that way anyway... once you get a few thousand photos on your computer it really starts to chew into the hard drive.

i lost my xp cd days after i got the computer so i can't format :p

and i've had the computer for 4 years...

I used to like to re-format and re-install (XP Pro) every 3-4 months, just to keep it ticking over nicely, but recently I just cant be bothered. I think it's been about 7-8 months now since my last format.
I'm after a new bigger, faster hard disk though pretty soon, so when I get that in a few weeks, that'll be the next format.
