I see by many postings in this group that there are many problems with XP
and networking. I've had my share of struggling in my Home Network (XP +
W98SE).
What blazingly infuriates me is when you get that silly cop-out message 'Ask
your Administrator . . .', 'You should get this file from your
Administrator', etc etc
This is XP HOME repeat HOME Edition. In I'm sure about 99% cases, there just
ain't some all wise knowledgeable 'Administrator' around! Like me I'm sure
that the vast majority of Home XP owners (each of whom spent their
hard-earned money to enrich good Bill a dime or two more) are sole
owner/operators. Why not provide the actual answers/files which presumably
would be provided by the 'Administrator' . Another fairly obvious measure
would be for XP to have a start-up option with all appropriate settings and
defaults that caters to sole owner/operators.
It's taken be about 6 weeks of struggle, including incorporating 16 Mb of
very necessary patches etc, to get my network running fairly. but far from
perfectly, robustly and predictably.
And a) I still haven't got rid of that damn dog . . . .
