Apologies for crossposting
I posed this question before in the XP news group and got a less than
polite response from
an inmate intimating that I had been an idle individual for not
looking elsewhere. Judging by his/her reply I assumed he/she meant
Google. I'm not idle, stupid maybe, inept probably, desparate
definitely. I would really like some help please.
Well I've googled smoogled and and every other bloody oogle and have
been unable to come up with a reason for the error message. Results 1
- 10 of about 15,000,000 for You were denied access because:.
Results 1 - 10 of about 24,200,000 for Access denied by access control
list.
This is what I get when Internet Explorer (6) launches.

You were denied access because:
Access denied by access control list.
Microsoft's own entry via google was unintelligible to me and was no
help at all. I don't really care that I can't use Microsoft Internet
Exlorer as I use exclusively Firefox. However, I cannot download
updates unless I can use MSIE. And if I'm wrong about this too then
tell me another way.
I can do everything on the web that I want to but cannot do it with
MSIE, I've got XP Home legal and SP2 installed. MSIE 6 too.
Please help if you can.
Since I posted the above to XP group I have discovered by trial and
error that this only happens when I am using my Netgear router. As far
as I am aware I am using the same set up as original as I saved them
to file once I had the router up and running and configured.
If I use another modem (and I have tried two) then I can access the
web via IE6 and Firefox. If I switch back to the netgear router then I
get the error message again with IE6 but firefox is OK.
