Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on why Office 2003 SP2 has
not corrected this fix for this error (info taken from old message):

See the following KB article:
You receive a "Word was unable to read this document. It may be
corrupt" error message when you open a document in Word 2003

The registry fix works great, and I am able to open new documents, but
I have had to do this reg change on a fully patched office 2003
install (and am looking at having to do a hell of a lot more!)

Any help would be much appreciated,

Paul

If you read the article you'll see the line "This problem is corrected in
Office 2003 Service Pack 2."

What further feedback do you want?

Editing registry might make your system unstable and is no fool proof solution as you mentioned also. All the same if your data really worth then you never going to swith to ad-hoc recovery methodologies. Veteran move is to switch towards Word recovery by third-party. But here you need to check most cost-effective service which besides recovery guarantees your 100% data security as well.:thumb:

Also with the advent of web 2.0 software model of data recovery is ceasing and services revolutionary replacing this software-support model. The one I came across and known to me is
Word Recovery Services
