YET ANOTHER "No Drive Letter Assigned" Problem

I just did a fresh install of Windows XP on my system. when done, My
drives show up in the bios and in Disk Manager. The Slave drive has no
drive letter and there is no option to give it one. Only option is to
delete the partition...I know doing this will restore the drive and
give it a drive letter etc, but I will also lose all my data. What
sucks is this drive is my backup...Everything important was backed up
to it before the re-install of windows. There is no way for me to
replace this data. There is no issue with master/slave settings or
cable connections being a problem as the case was not opened and
nothing was changed..I just did a clean install of Windows XP.

Nothing I have tried has worked. I have read over and over on here that
many are having this problem but I have yet to see anyone suggest how
to fix this problem. Does anyone have any Idea what I can do?
I have tried to copy the drive but can't.

I am pretty desperate at this point and losing this data is not an
option...ANY help would be wonderful!

Thanks!

If your Disk Manager sees the drive,
Click to highlite the drive,
Click Action at the top, All Tasks,
Change drive letter and paths,
Select a letter.

Tried that...the only option is to delete the partition...I am being
offered no other options.
I can't do this as it will wipe the drive of all the data on it.

Remove the drive, reboot to Windows, then shut down the PC and re-attach the
drive and see if Windows detects it.

Was the drive converted to a dynamic drive? Is there an option Import a
foreign drive?

Was a drive overlay/manager (or GoBack) installed in the original
setup? To get a more detailed picture of what the problem may be,
download/unzip partinfo.exe to a 9x DOS startup disk. Boot to the floppy
and from the DOS prompt run

partinfo > A:\partinfo.txt

Open a:\partinfo.txt in notepad and post the results.

WOW!! I fixed it!! I diconnected the drive totally from the PC and
loaded Norton system works. turned off the PC and connected the slave
drive back up. booted the pc from the main drive and woo hoo!!! It is
back!! Oh I am SO smart!! WOOT!!! (doing my goofy dance now!! stop
laughing! I'm allowed!! It's girl stuff!)
Keep this question in mind if this comes up again...is there ANY
Norton/Symantics progz on your computer before you re-installed Windows
etc? If so...disconnect the drive, load the Norton prog again and
reboot. It worked for me!! woo hoo!!

Thanks to those that tried to help!

Did that include installing GoBack? If so, the GoBack code was needed
to translate what it had set up in the old config.
