HI, I have just re-installed windows ME on a pc . I also installed a
new Linksys lan card. When I try to connect to the net , no go. Device
manager tells me that a pci communication device is not working. What
is a pci communication device, I thought it was the lan card, but that
seems to be recognised and is working properly . How do I fix this
little problem? Thanks in advance for your help.-J

You may need to install drivers from your motherboard that allows
Windows to correctly see all built-in devices. Check with your
motherboard or computer manufacturer. Also get the most recent drivers
for the Linksys from their site - use those in preference to the ones
that came with the card or the ones included with Windows.

Check the advanced properties for the Linksys card. Sometimes forcing
it to use 10 or 100 Mbit mode rather than auto will work better.

In the meantime, try deleting the yellow question mark device and your
network card from the device manager. After rebooting, Windows should
re-detect the devices. If you're lucky, it will do a better job of it
than it did the first time.

Why oh WHY would you inflict the World's worst OS on an innocent PC?

You have to install the device-driver for the card.
Then go into Windows Setup, delete communications, reboot, re-install
communications, and then reboot again. Windows will then probably find
the card and connect to it.

Does your Motherboard have a built in modem socket?
