Can someone who uses YC3 tell me how they use it to select an item from the
Boilerplate collection and paste it into the destination application.
Sounds basic, but doesn't seem to work for me and I need to know what should
happen.
Also there is no clear unambiguous instruction on exactly what the Shoot
function does and is for.
Also is there a total limit of 200 items of Boilerplate, or 200 in each
Boilerplate collection?
Any help appreciated

Brian,

I'm not a YC expert but I might be able to help. To use "shoot": open
the program you want to send the clip to and place the cursor where you
want the clip pasted; switch to YC and select the clip you want
transferred; right click>shoot; minimize YC; after a short delay, the
selected clip should appear in the destination program. I've found a
pretty high failure rate with this procedure. Often, I have to go back
and shoot a second or even third time before it'll work. The help file
says you have to switch to the other program within 5 seconds, so maybe
I'm a little slow sometimes.

The same procedure is used to shoot items from boilerplate.

To stray a bit off topic, I use YC for only one thing: collecting a
series of clips in one operation. When I read a long thread on a
forum, typically there are only bits and pieces that I want to save.
With the windows clipboard, you have to go back and forth with the
copy-paste operation. With YC, I first clear the history list, then I
go through the thread and copy all the sections I'm interested in.
Then I go to YC and combine all the clips into one big clip (right
click>combine bottom to top) and shoot it into Ecco Pro. It's pretty
handy. You have to remember to go back and clear the YC history before
starting another copy sequence.

I wanted to use YC to store permanent clips but I can't get by without
a nested folder system for organizing clips. I was unable to find this
feature in a free program (CLCL can probably do it but I gave up trying
to figure that program out without a User's Guide). I ended up buying
a low-cost program that does the job.

Hope that helps,
Wayne

Hi Wayne,

re - Freeware that works to your specific requirements. Treepad has an
auto-paste feature (and it's easy to use).

YC3 obeys rules that allow you to selct an entry and drag it from the
Boilerplate Section into most applications like Word and Outlook (but
not Notepad). Also if you double click on an entry it goes onto the
clipboard.

Either way works well and if you have to do it multiple inserts within
an application, choose the "Always on Top" feature called "Float" under
the Windows Menu of the program.

Susan,

Thanks for that. I just downloaded Treepad Lite and tried it. I see
that you were suggesting it as a replacement for YC for collecting
disconnected clips. It does look more convenient. At first I thought
you were suggesting that it stores clips in nested folders (which it
does) and automatically pastes them to other programs (which I don't
think it does). You have to select the clip, copy it, move to the
other program, and paste it. I was looking for a program that allows
you to quickly select a clip from nested folders and automatically
paste it to the other program as soon as you click on the clip. It's
just a couple steps quicker than the TreePad set up.

yup

Agree - as far as I know it can't do that (just the automatic paste
*into* Treepad).

Keynote *might* be able to do that - dunno - I gather it has more
options for automatic pasting than Treepad - haven't tried them myself.
.. . it's also got more of a learning curve. Treepad is soooooooooooo
easy to learn/use. :)
