Hi,
I know that no one here likes the Yahoo toolbar. I like it and depend on it.
I currently use it on over 10 different computers from different
manufacturers, ranging from 5-year old barely working to my new Dell. It's on
Ie6 and Ie7 in differents states of beta. I have never had a single problem,
in fact I love it. I now have the affore mentioned Dell with Media Center
Edition 2005. Now IE6 gives me "stops responding" errors constantly.
Occasionally a hard freeze. URL box when clicked on seems to cause it more,
otherwise it's random. Uninstall fixes. So what gives whose at fault, how do
I fix it? What is new to my world is Dual core Intel, and Media Center 2005.
(Dell 510 Dual core 2.8, 1GB, 160 hard drive, MCE2005 RU2 and all other
updates, PC-Cillin AV. Recent re-install with out all the 3rd party, trial
stuff) 1 - small side note MCE Runs sluggish after Computer on and on net for
a while with or without toolbar, any relationship?

Thanks, MP

Hi Mike,

I am sure others respondents on this newsgroup would agree that it is not
our place to rubbish non-MS products. In fact very few are actually MS
employees, most are enthusiasts, some are MS MVP's. We all collectively have
a laugh when a UNIX/Linux/firefox gamer makes a seditious comment about the
security or stability of Internet Explorer.

You answered your own question in your post - The Yahoo Toolbar is a Beta
product and so is used at the users risk without guarantees or warranties. I
cannot comment on why it is not working with your hardware/software
configuration and it will be up to the Yahoo developers to develop a stable
product for public release (it does some things - like hijacking search
settings, which may also conflict with other toolbars installed on your
machine, notably the Google toolbar which places locks on the registry keys
for the homepage and search settings)

Perhaps uninstalling the Toolbar is extreme. You can use the Add-on manager
in IE to disable the toolbar (you must also disable its satellite BHO -
Browser Helper Object) and so retain its search provider settings in IE
(although Yahoo shortcuts will not work, either will the built-in SearchURLs
for IE... Yahoo hijacks the engine).

Finally you can't blame the Yahoo developers. Just look at how long it has
taken Microsoft with IE7 and even after the public release you can bet that
there will be a continual release of enhancements (some call them patches).
I would blame the Marketing and Management ppl who place un-realistic
deadline for the development and release of software products. OMG! I am
going to kill the next Marketing x-spurt that utters SDLC without even
knowing what it means or entails. - I think they are confused between the
Product Cycle and the Software Development Life Cycle. Great Software is
never finished, it is continually enhanced to meet the changing expectations
of its customers. Crappy software dies quickly and takes on the title of
Vapor Ware.

Regards.

Rob,
That was the most thoughtful response to an issue I've ever
gotten....thanks. The blame game was actually my attempt to rule in software
to the exclusion of my new hardware. I'm pretty sure I'm clear now.
