yahoo page not refreshing

a problem I haven't seen before...my yahoo home page
is "stuck" on March 9th...the news modules won't update.
I have cleared the cache, downloaded service packs for
windows and IE, updated java, edited my preferences in
yahoo...nothing seems to be working. It is only on the
laptop, my desktop PC shows the current yahoo modules
just fine.

Any ideas????

You said that you already purged IE's temp file cache. Have you also
purged your cookies?

I have purged until I am blue in the face...cookies, temp
files, all of it...have also run registry sweeps, virus
checks, and anything else I could think of. Have checked
IE and Windows updates, but have found nothing. It seems
to be just my yahoo home page...browsing on other pages
works fine. I am stumped.

ok...first off, thanks to those who tried to help.

Second, I managed to cure the problem, although this is
the weirdest thing I've seen. Just for future reference,
here's what I did:

I went to Yahoo and set up a new account. Apparently,
this wiped whatever hidden cache files or registry keys
Yahoo had lurking and I was able to log in under my old
account name and have current information.

I can only guess that there was corrupted file somewhere
in the Yahoo mess and the only way to fix it was to
overwrite it with new account information.

Thanks again all!

Okay, but you never mentioned if you opted to make Yahoo your e-mail
client (which results in downloading and registering an ActiveX control
and changing some registry settings) or if you opted to include the
Yahoo Companion. Unless you mention the Yahoo Companion or Yahoo Mail
AX control, and if you are using one or both, none of use would've
probably thought of those. The only reason I just thought about them is
that when you mentioned about registering for a new account then I
remembered that during the signup procedure it asks you if you want
Yahoo Companion (don't remember if it also asks about Yahoo Mail).

I have used Yahoo since 1999 and never encountered this
problem. I don't use companion and I don't have yahoo
mail as the default client.

I thought those options were offered under Yahoo
messenger....?

Yahoo Companion is a toolbar in IE. It has nothing to do with Yahoo's
prattle client (i.e., Messenger). Yahoo Mail is an ActiveX control that
updates the registry and allows you to select Yahoo as your default MAPI
e-mail client. Again, nothing to do with Yahoo Messenger. Since you
have never used nor installed Yahoo Companion or Yahoo Mail, that's
probably why you haven't encountered the same problem as reported by
michelle. It is just a guess of mine that either Yahoo Companion or
Yahoo Mail caused the problem and that reinstalling them with the
opening of a new Yahoo e-mail account stepped on the old copies to get
them fixed. We won't know if michelle uses these and opted to install
them during the new account signup procedure unless she returns to say
so.
