Yahoo games and Yahoo messenger

T

trip

I recently bought a new Dell XPS computer that had windows
XP already installed. I am having a problem with playing
Yahoo games or using Yahoo instant messenger. Both start
off ok, then my computer doesn't register my opponents
move or my friends chat with messenger.I have checked with
my IPS and I have no problem with the connection. I have
downloaded the Sun Java plug-in and even followed all of
their instructions on their self help page about windowsXP
and Yahoo compatibility problems, but I still have the
problem. I even tried using netscape and mozilla browsers
to see if the problem was with my internet explorer , but
that didn't help. Dell tech support was aweful. They put
you on hold for 90 minutes at a time and then someone
comes on who can't help you and puts you on hold for
another hour and finally gives you to someone else who
can't help you then they put you on hold for another hour
hoping that you will get so frustrated you will hang up,
and when you don't they disconnect you. Does anyone know
how I can fix this problem with Yahoo? Your help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thatz the problem these days, u cant get decent support.
Anyway, this is most probably because of a firewall. Do u
use a software firewall (pc-cillin/norton), a hardware
firewal (dsl/cable router) or windows - yes windows
actually has a built in firewall even though it ain't any
good firewall. Try disabling all of them. If it will
work, you'll have to work out which option u should
enable for the games to work with the firewall on.
If it doesn't work, well I recommand MSN, itz really
really good.

Hi,

Skip directly to Step 3 Denise, the download link is listed there.

If Single Player games (ex: www.zone.com/bejeweled.) don't load try these steps:
* Afterwards, all game sites (such as Yahoo) with similar games will work as well.

1. Click START / Control Panel / Internet Options and click on the Advanced Tab.

2. Below HTTP 1.1 is the Sun Java/ Microsoft VM section: Make sure all Java choices
are unchecked (especially JIT) and then press [OK]. You may be prompted to reboot.

3. If you don't see a Microsoft VM section then download Microsoft Virtual Machine for:
Windows 98 / Me / NT / XP from: http://www.abxair.com/software/msjavx86.exe

4. After you download Java, double-click the file to install it, reboot and then follow
the directions in Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other advanced options.

* Whenever you get a Java Virtual Machine Security Update from Windows Update, you
will have to follow Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other adv. options again.

5. Some games require Shockwave Flash which you can download from:
http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/frameset.fhtml

6. If the problem persists Adjust Your browser:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/nibblesnbits/EnterRooms.html#IE

7. Try these suggestions for Zone's Java Games: http://zone.msn.com/zzzz/help/helpjavagames.asp

8. If you see a coffee cup icon in your icon tray, or have Sun Java listed in Control Panel /
Add-Remove programs uninstall or disable it to prevent conflicts with Microsoft's Java.

9. Maybe it's a software conflict: Make certain that your Firewall or Antivirus program is
not configured to block Java Applets. Norton's products for example have that option.
If you're unsure temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with Firewall,
Antivirus & AdBlockers using: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=331796
or this utility: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php
