XY Line chart

I hardly dare ask this as it seems so easy; but I can't do
it.

If I plot a straight line graph such as y=2x-2, with X
values ranging say -2 to +2. How do I get to show -ve
values on the x-axis and y-axis as necessary?

The negative values will automatically show. You may wish to format each
axis to change where they cross each other - most of us like this at 0,0.

Click on an axis, select the scale tab, and make sure that Auto scaling
of minimum and maximum are selected.

There is no such chart type as "XY Line". For plotting a function you
probably want "XY (Scatter)" rather than "Line".

The name "Line" chart is extremely misleading. It has nothing to do
with whether you want to connect the points with a line. Rather, it
specifies that the x-axis is based on categories rather than an
arithmetic scale.

The graph I'm after is a straight line grpah as taught at
school. You will recall this usually has the Y-axis
crossing the x-axis at 0, but, the x-axis continues,
sometimes, in the negative direction.

Whilst Excel allows a negative Y axis and positions the x-
axis accordingly, I cannot get the x-axis to show negative
values. How do I do this? I still can't get it to look
right.
