Somehow xupiter software was loaded on my pc ,which I
don't want. I followed the advice of microsoft to go to
my registry and to locate HKEY-CURRENT
USER/SOFTWARE/POLICES/MICROSOFT/INTERNET EXPLORER/CONTROL
PANEL. I got as far as policies but the remainder isn't
in there and I couldn't find it anyplace else in the
registry. I am using Windows 2000 currently and IE6. I
just want to delete Xupiter off my system...any help is
greatly appreciated....Kathy

To deal with any sort of "adware" and/or "spyware,"such as Gator,
Comet Cursors, Xupiter, Bonzai Buddy, or KaZaA, and their remnants,
that you've deliberately (but without understanding the consequences)
installed, two products that are quite effective (at finding and
removing this type of scumware) are Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and
SpyBot Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de/. Both have
free evaluation versions. It's even possible to use SpyBot Search &
Destroy to "immunize" your system against most future intrusions. I
use both and generally perform manual scans every week or so to clean
out cookies, etc.

Thank you Bruce for your help. I downloaded the adware
from lavasoft, I hope I chose the better of the software.
One question about it though. You said it removes the
adware from my pc, yet from what I gather from the
software details, is it just quarantines it. Of course
I'd rather have it removed. I'm just curious because I am
satisfied with the information you've already given me.
BTW...the spyware found like 76 items that were intruding
my computer lol...unreal and intrusive, made me mad.
Again, thanks for helping me out...Kat

Thanks Mr. B and I did just that. I appreciate you taking
the time to respond and I hope it improves the performance
of my pc. Have a good one~Kat

I highly recommend Spybot as posted by the other guy who
responded to your thread. It finds and
kills Xupiter and many many other pgorams that install themselves on your PC.

The idea behind initially quarantining the suspect files is to
protect you from accidentally deleting something that's essential to
the PC's operation, but may have been misidentified by Ad-Aware. If
the PC continues to operate normally with the files in quarantine,
you'll know that it's safe to delete them.
