XPS writer and viewer

I have been trying to use the XPS writer but it always fails and says
unknown printer error. I have uninstlled and reinstalled Net Framework 3
and 3.5. I have also tried to install the XPS Essential Package put it
fails before all the packaged programs are installed. Are there any ideas
on getting my XPS writer to work?
 
It was apparently the XPS writer than installed when .NET Framework 3 was
installed on my computer. The printer icon showed up but it it worthless.
If I try to use it say unknown printer error. I then went to Microsofts site
and tried to install the XPS Essential Package but it never completes the
install.

Once again, what XPS writer are you talking about...?

The XPS writer printer icon appeared after installing .NET Framework 3 but
when I try to use the printer it say unknown printer error. I uninstalled
and reinstalled NET framework 3 but no luck. I then went to the microsoft
site and downloaded the XPS Essential Package for XP. It stops during the
install and says that parts of the package were unable to be installed.
