Since 5 weeks I have now 2 P4 computers. Old is "master" and connects
directly to the internet.
"slave" is connected via LAN (directly, no hub, no router) to the master.
Both having XPproSP2 loaded (of course each has a original package). I could
activate the XPpro on the slave 5 weeks ago. But I have checked now these
days the update status. No updates. I have to register. Fine, I wnat to
register. Then I reased, I could not get via any routes to MS' update site.
What must I do,to
1 to register (to get to the registering site) and
2 to get automatic updates. I have that in System checked, but the slave
cannot connect to the update site - see above.
Please some advise would help.

Registration is optional.
Activation is mandatory.

So.. do you have some sort of "Internet Connection Sharing" going on?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126

Can you connect to other web sites on what you call the slave?
At the bottom of the article above.. there are some links you may want to
look at..

Particularly:

Resources for Troubleshooting Internet Connection Sharing in Windows XP

and

Thanks Stanley,
I found:
I went through your suggested links and found the following:
"Obtain DNS server address automatically" - was not checked in client nor
host PC.
and
"Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computerr on my network attempts
to access the Internet"
was missing on the host PC.
As before, the client connects to the internet - but much faster. Still, I
can't get to the MS update site. I received error0x80072EE2, which indicates
a firewall stop. I switched off the fire wall - no luck.
I have, 5 weeks ago, configured the 2 PC's via the home network and internet
connection sharing wizzard. Maybe I have to start it all over.
Is there a next step or start really from scratch?

Is here a possibility to attach some screen dumps?
