I have a user with Windows XPpro (OEM). He shut the system off Friday due to
maintenance in the building on Saturday. He powered the syustem up, logged
on, and the Windows Activation dialog box popped up, and stated his copy of
XP wasn't activated, and would he like to do that now. He clicks on "yes",
and the WPA comes back and states that his copy of Windows is already
activated. He clicks ok, and it logs him off. He logs back on, and the whole
cycle repeats itself.
If I log in using a domain Admin account, or local admin, the activation
wizards starts immediately. If I start up in Safe mode MSOOBE does not fire
up and block the logon process, but I can't run it. I have erased the WPA
registry entries, and replaced the WPA.bdl file from a good machine, but the
stupid activation wizard returns.
This is a valid OEM license, and the user has had this laptop for over a
year now. Am I facing a rebuild, or is there a better way to circumvent the
activation wizard?
