xplorer2 stays in memory after closing - anyone else seeing this?

I really like xplorer2 lite, but unfortunately I have had to uninstall
it because I keep having a problem with the program not unloading
properly when it is closed. Often after exiting xplorer2 my system
(WinXP Pro) slows down noticeably, and when I open the Task Manager I
will find the program still listed in the processes window. Forcing an
End Process restores the system to normal. Several days ago my
computer slowed to a crawl - even just opening the Start menu took
many seconds. When I checked the Task Manager I found 2 instances of
xplorer2 running, even though the program was not open at the time.
Again, I had to End Process (twice) to get rid of them. Have any other
users seen this behavior? Interestingly, I occasionally had this same
problem with 2xExplorer, but it happened much less frequently.

I posted your message to the xplorer2 lite forum, and I am sure somebody
will respond. I haven't noticed any similar slowdowns; I haven't checked
Task Manager to see if xplorer2 stays in memory after the program is closed.

Here is a link to the xplorer2 forum, specifically to my post in which I
repeated your inquiry:

i had reports of this problem by a few users but nobody
has nailed it down yet. Does it always happen when you run x2?
or is there a minimum set of actions that will cause it?

thank you for your help on this one

Thanks for responding, Nikos. As I said, I like the program, so I will
re-install it and try to track when this behavior occurs. It may take
a week or so to accumulate some details, so I will register at the
forum and follow-up there.

Does x2 still need Dependency Walker running to operate in W98SE? It certainly
did in earlier versions.

And, can you offer it also as a no-install zip file? That is one of the great
features of 2XExplorer.

i think i've answered this before, but _no_ you don't need
dependency walker or anything else to run x2 on win98

And, can you offer it also as a no-install zip file?

i may do that in the future

With the recent "flooding", past posts vanish rapidly.

Thanks,

there was a problem with xplorer2 and WMP9, which caused it to hang
this wasn't a problem for earlier versions of wmp
anyway this should be fixed now
whoever wants to try, here's an advance debug version:
www.ps.ic.ac.uk/~umeca74/dbmon.zip (700K)
note that it is unicode so it won't run on win9x/ME
this version should become final by the end of the week
