I have two PCs networked via a Linksys wireless-G
broadband router. Both PC's can access the internet.
The XP Home computer can access files on the 98SE
computer.

My problem is that the 98SE computer cannot access files
on the XP PC although it can "see" the XP Home computer
in My Network Places. When I click on that computer in
My Network Places I get a message that that computer does
not exist.

I have enabled file sharing on the XP PC and diabled the
XP firewall.

Any suggestions?

start>settings>Control panel>folder options> select view
tab> scroll down and select simple file sharing
now you want to say share a c:\ drive for ex for your
windows xp pc
right click on the drive > sharing and security > sharing
tab
look at the font blue in color letter, i want to share
this drive i understand the risk. After selecting that you
get.
1) On network and security click( check box) on share this
folder over the network.
2) if you want the users to modify or access the files
remotely select Allow users to modify files

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
