Sometimes, when you change the IP address of a network connection, a popup
occurs saying that a reboot is required. If you subsequently change the IP
address again, the popup does not occur. This occurs in XPe and XP Pro. In
one flavor of our XPe, the popup doesn't occur but the IP change isn't
complete. We must have some missing component in that case. We know that
something is amiss because we have software that monitors IP address changes
and it is seeing the update occur. In the reboot case, it seems like the
actual change is delayed until during the next startup, but we get an
indicator that a change has taken place, but the new IP address is secret
hidden somewhere.
Does anyone know the conditions that cause an IP address change to require a
reboot?
