I am new to Xp world. I am trying to deploy a DCOM server into XPE machine.
My configurations are celeron 300 MHz, 256MB RAM. I have mostly all the
networking features selected and the firewall is disabled. I am able to
browse to other computers on the network from my XPE computer but I can not
even ping XPE from other computers on the network. Ping 127.0.0.1 and
localhost works fine. IP address and subnet masks are good on my NIC. Please
help.

Hi Vishnu

Sounds like a firewall config problem.
Check with Regedit following key:
[HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile],"EnableFirewall"=dword:0--Martin Grossen, eMVPAVNET EMG SilicaFranchise Manager Microsoft Embedded EuropeYour competent partner for Microsoft Embedded licencing~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Vishnu" <[email protected]> schrieb im Newsbeitragam new to Xp world. I do not have even [HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess in
my registry. I am using SP1. So Far I can ping the maching from other
computer and also can see the machine on the network but it is still
inaccessable.

Vishnu,

You should have mentioned you are with SP1 - it makes a huge difference for network issues.
In your original post you said you couldn't ping the machine from other components. It now seems to have changed, right? Did you
make any changes in the image to make this happen?

What do you mean by "inaccessibility"? What method do you use to access the machine? Are you trying to access its shares? What
account(s) you are using then?
If so, you should check whether the File Sharing coponent was including in your image and the Server service is running at run time.

Also, is your image Minlogon or Wnlogon based?

I do not know what component I added that made it possible to ping this
machine from other machines on the network. As I said I can see the machine
on the network and double clicking on it displays error message as "Logon
Faliure". At this time I am only trying to see if I can see the shares on
that machine without actually accessing them.
File sharing is included in the image. Image is Windows Logon (standard).

Vishnu,

First of all, you should use "net use" command instead double clicking to at least provide the right account settings to create
authentication channel properly.

Also, make sure to "fix" guest account access in your runtime. Add this registry to turn on the guest account:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Cur-rentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"forceguest"=dword:1.

Thanks KM.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Cur-rentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"forceguest"=dword:1 did not really help because it comes with the user and
password authentication dialog with userid as guest. I have no passwords what
so ever in that machine. But changine limitblankpassword to dword:1 let me
access that machine by double clicking on it, by displaying the shares
available on it.
Thank you very much again.

Vishnu,

No problem.

Btw, did you mean "LimitBlankPasswordUse" value?
Well.. It will work for you if you happened to use blank passwords on your system. However, keep in mind that it is a potential
security hole.
