XPe Installation problems

I've downloaded the latest XPe with SP2.

I did not have the XPe SP1 installed so I hacked and scratched my way to
make 3 iso images of the XPe SP2 download.

ISO 1 - XPe SP1 tools & SQL server desktop engine
ISO 2 - XPe SP1 db stuff
ISO 3 - Xpe SP2

The install of the tools goes fine but SQL server desktop engine for XPe
SP1 fails to configure the server.

Is there a way to JUST install the tools?
 
What would be the point in installing JUST the XPe tools without the SQL
engine?

Do you have an SQL instance installed and running on the machine where you
are trying to install the XPE SQL server desktop engine
(MSDE).
What exactly error you are seeing? Check out the Error Log too.
