I think you may be mixing a few terms here.

1. XPE = XP Embedded. Custom OS crafted using a toolkit using the same
binaries from XP Pro. Can contain embedded specific features not present in
XP Pro.
2. XP Professional for Embedded Systems. Exactly the same as XP Pro (same
binaries, same 'install'). Difference is in contract/licensing terms/price.
3. WEPOS = Windows Embedded for Point of Service. Built by MS using XPE,
but OEM installs via an easy 'install' program although not the same install
as XP Pro. Also contains some POS bits not included with XP Pro or XPE.

The one you want depends on a variety of factors so I won't just guess here.
Do you have more details to help narrow down your selection?

The system is a POS til thats being developed. Currently its running on Xp ,
but I have a feeling that it is overkill.

all the till uses via XP are the printers and networking.

I dont know if you can classify the code as thin client thou, as its done in
..net and is using windowed apps , but running full screen. Although the code
is running via disconnected recordsets and so is very light on operation.

One till though is a server and runs web services and MSDE

Thanks
