I'm running an XP2000+ chip, Hercules 4500 Kyro 2 64 meg card, 1 stick 512 M
of Kingston ram, Maxtor 40g 7,200 rpm drive, ECS K7VZA ver3 mobo w/ 37 bios
(latest one), Enermax 350 watt PS, latest drivers on everything and...I'm
freezing up. I upgraded the PS and chip last weekend from an AMD 1g and a
300 watt PS, and it's been re-boot central over here since then. It can
happen during any program; mail, IE6, Wolfenstein, whatever. Before the
upgrade, I was stable and crashed maybe every 7 or 8 weeks if that, but now,
it's every 20 minutes or less. Can anyone shed some light on why this might
be happening, and what I could do about it?

thanks

RS

PS, I also posted this in the ECS NG, hope no-one minds TOO much...

Take the case off & blow a house fan into it, if that fixes it, you need a
better cooling system.

I think it cools ok, after running Q# or Wolfenstein for 30 minutes, I am at
42 celsius..pretty good, I think. But I'll try the house fan anyway, and
thanks for the tips.

cheers

I once had (somewhat) similar symptoms with a slightly subquality mem
module.
It survived ramtests, but was nevertheless slightly faulty in some
way.
It's easy to check, just lower your ram settings in bios to something
less agressive. If it runs ok then, it's the module. In my case, an
identical replacement module, same brand, worked just great. So it was
just that individual module that was flaky.
It doesn't strike me as terribly probable with Kingston. But as I
said, it's easy to check, so I offer it anyway.

Assuming you're running Win9x, - you have reinstalled it? Haven't you?

And when you reinstalled it, did you have a CDRW drive attached?
