I have an XP pro and XP home machine that won't talk to
each other. Both machines can see each others name, but
when I click on the name, I get '\\PCname is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource' and 'Access is denied'. Both machines
have several folders that are shared.

I have tried the following:

1. Reviewed 318030 - You Cannot Access Shared Files and
Folders or Browse Computers in the Workgroup
2. Made sure NETBIOS over TCP is turned on on both
machines
3. Made sure the computer browser service is started
4. Made sure server service is started (tried restaring
it)
5. Ran the network setup wizard to ensure both machines
were set up the same
6. Made sure internet firewall was turned off and the
service disabled
7. Uninstalled Norton Internet Security completely

The settings were all correct and still can't connect.
Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Al

Are they hooked directly together meaning no router or hub?? If so are you
using a crossover cable? If a router is there are the units Static or
dynamic IP address?? Do you get a user name and password window?? IF so what
do you type in for user name?? You can email me with these answers.

They are hooked up to a linksys firewall/hub that is
supplying DNS addresses. I checked and the addresses both
look good.

I get no username or password dialog - just the error
message immediately.
