I currently have XP x64 installed without a raid setup, but have decided that
I wanted to add one. My question is, can I still keep the x64 OS I have
installed now and just add the raid, or do I need to do a complete
installation again?? I've tried switch the bios to raid and then using the
setup utility .. with the original drive where XP is installed on as a JBOD
... and then setting the other 2 drives up as part of my RAID 1. When I
reboot though, it wont boot to XP ... Can someone help me out please!!
Thanks!

Odd way of installing RAID....However,1st set BIOS for RAID,after BIOS enter
post BIOS RAID set up utility, create a RAID set.As for xp,once RAID
configuration
is done,at start-up or restart,press F8 key if xp doesnt start,select safe
mode,
enter as administrator, install RAID controller software/drivers.Also,forget
the
3rd hd until RAID is set-up,it'll only add to the confusion.

"Add One" or replace your boot drive/system drive with the RAID setup?

Usually yes.
Your motherboard manual will give you exact procedures, which can vary by
motherboard.
Or card manual if raid controlers are on a card
Raid 1 comprises 2 drives, the third is a hot swap, added after the raid has
been built.

I want to add one .. after installing XP 64 with the sata setting of Legacy
IDE instead of raid ... which shows the sata drive as an IDE drive on bootup.
I want to keep the boot drive the way it is though, and just add the sata
raid for the 2 storage drives I want to install ..

I have a biostar ta690G motherboard, and it has the worst raid section I've
ever seen. All it basically tells you is what raid 0 is and what raid 1 is
and what raid 10 is ... and that's it. Nothing about the how to set it in
bios ..or anything about the post bios raid management utility to set the
drives up ... and going to their websit is no help either ... nothing further
there that is of any help ... =T
