There were a lot of items in the start menu to the point where the computer would not start. Once I removed all these items I was able to use the pc. But now the windows update function is not working and I know it is only a matter of time before the pc will not function again. What is the filename that the update is looking for, where is it located and how do I get it

Thanks

If you have Automatic Updates checked off under Control panel > system, you should
get the updates hot fixes automatically when they're available. You don't
need to have it load at startup. You can also schedule the task as well.
I'm not sure. but I think the client file it uses is wuauclt.exe for auto
updates.

Sorry, I didn't read your question close enough the last time. You'll still
get your updates automatically without the short cut on your start menu based
on my last post, but the short cut you are missing on the start menu targets
wupdmgr.exe.
